Setting up a production tenant

This checklist takes a new tenant from creation to a verified first request. Each step is one action with a link to the full chapter. Work through the steps in order.

Steps 4 to 8 are optional but recommended hardening: a tenant works without a budget, rate limit, guardrail pipeline, additional users, or a long-lived token, but a production tenant should have them.

  1. Create a tenant (Tenants) — platform admins only.
  2. Create a gateway (Gateways).
  3. Store a provider key (Provider keys / BYOK).
  4. Set a budget (Budgets).
  5. Set a rate limit (Rate limiting).
  6. Add a guardrail pipeline (Guardrails).
  7. Invite users (Users).
  8. Issue an auth token (Authentication).
  9. Send a test request — call the gateway with the token to confirm it routes and responds.
  10. Check the request logs (Request logs) — confirm the request was recorded with provider, model, token count, cost, and latency.
