Mistral
Description
Mistral AI is a European foundation-model provider. The gateway integrates with Mistral La Plateforme at the EU-hosted endpoint https://api.mistral.ai for chat completions and SSE streaming. Authentication uses a bearer token; the gateway does not require any per-gateway configuration for Mistral beyond the BYOK key. Model identifiers span several families — for example mistral-…, codestral-…, magistral-…, ministral-…, and devstral-…; routing is by provider selection, not by name prefix.
Because Mistral is hosted in the EU, the gateway treats the mistral provider as an EU-resident provider, so a residency-restricted gateway can route to it.

💡 Note: The Mistral Agents API rejects a system role in the message list. On a web-search request the gateway keeps the system instruction by folding its content into the first user message, so the guidance is preserved while the
systemrole is removed. The folded system text and the user's own message are separated by the prompt's block rule (---), so the user's text — including an attached or pasted document — is a separate block after the system prompt's last block. That first user message is preserved in full when it is made of several text parts (typed text plus a pasted document); a non-text part (an image) in that first message cannot ride the folded text input and is dropped with a gateway log — an image attached to the first message of a Mistral web-search conversation is not forwarded; later messages are forwarded as they came.
BYOK key format
The BYOK value for the mistral provider is a single Mistral API key. The gateway sends the key in the Authorization: Bearer <KEY> header.
Adding the key
The procedure for storing a BYOK key is the same for every provider. See Provider keys (BYOK) for the steps. Select mistral in the Provider drop-down list and paste the API key in the API Key field.
