Edit a presentation
What it does
When a slide deck is in the conversation, because the assistant wrote it or you attached it, you can ask for a change to one slide, such as a new slide, a moved slide, a changed figure or a slide that does not fit. The assistant changes only the affected passages instead of writing the whole deck again, which is much faster for a large deck. The result is saved as a new version of the same file, and the reply shows its card labelled Updated. The earlier version stays available as the earlier card.
This page is about HTML slide decks. For a new deck, see Create a presentation.
How to ask
Name the file and the slide number, and say what should change. Below are three prompts you can copy and adapt. They name the file deck.html: use the name of your own file.
Insert a slide
Tested on: qwen3.8-27b
Not recommended for: gemma-4-31b-it, mistral-small-4
Adds a new slide with a title and three points after slide 3.
Move a slide
Tested on: qwen3.8-27b
Not recommended for: gemma-4-31b-it, mistral-small-4
Moves slide 4 so that it comes right after the first slide.
Fix a slide that overflows
Slide 3 of deck.html runs off the bottom of the page. Rework it so that it fits, and keep every region on it.
Tested on: qwen3.8-27b
Not recommended for: gemma-4-31b-it, mistral-small-4
Reworks a slide whose content runs off the bottom of the page, and keeps everything that was on it.
Each prompt was run on the three Myra-hosted models, ten runs each, against a prepared five-slide report deck. A run counts as passed when the deck has the right slides afterwards and the rest of it is unchanged. Under each prompt you see the models it was tested on; the table shows how many of the ten runs passed:
| Prompt | Test case | qwen3.8-27b | gemma-4-31b-it | mistral-small-4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Insert a slide | New slide with three points after slide 3 of a five-slide deck | 10/10 | 0/10 | 1/10 |
| Move a slide | Slide 4 of a five-slide deck moved behind the first slide | 10/10 | 5/10 | 0/10 |
| Fix a slide that overflows | Slide 3 with many regions that runs off the page | 10/10 | 4/10 | 0/10 |
Tips
- Give the slide number and the exact change. For a figure, name the old and the new value.
- Name the file when the conversation has more than one.
- Ask for one change per message. You can ask for the next one right after.
- In a deck the assistant wrote, page numbers need no work: when a slide is added, removed or moved, the numbers of the other slides are right without being edited.
- If the deck is open in the artifact panel when the assistant changes it, the panel shows the new version by itself at the end of the reply (no click on the card). A deck opens on the slide the assistant changed last; the earlier version stays in the version history. If you had an unsaved edit in that tab, it is kept and the panel asks whether to reload or to save your version anyway.
- To change the slide you are looking at, open the deck in the artifact panel (Preview), go to that slide and choose Change this slide. Type what should change and press Enter: the message box of the chat is filled with a request that names the file and the slide number, but it is not sent. Read it, add to it if you like, and send it yourself. The request does not contain the deck. The button appears only for the newest version of a deck, in Preview, and not while the assistant is answering. If the deck has a different number of slides when you send, the assistant does not change it and asks which slide you mean.
- Under the slide, the artifact panel shows a strip with a small picture of every slide. Select a picture to go to that slide. After the assistant changed the deck, a dot marks each slide that differs from the previous version (a slide that was inserted or moved does not mark the slides after it), and a warning mark appears on a slide that the layout check named as cut off or empty. The strip is hidden while you have an unsaved edit and returns when you save or discard it. A very long deck shows only the pictures near the visible part of the strip.
- To move, copy or remove the slide you are looking at without asking the assistant, use the four buttons under the strip: Move earlier, Move later, Duplicate and Delete. Each saves a new version of the file at once, and the slide you worked on stays selected. Duplicate puts the copy right behind the original; it is an exact copy, so anything that carries an
idin that slide exists twice afterwards. Delete asks you to confirm and is disabled when the deck has only one slide. The buttons appear only for the newest version of a deck that is saved as a file, while the assistant is not answering and while you have no unsaved edit. If the structure of the deck is too unusual to rearrange safely, the file is left unchanged and the panel says so: ask the assistant instead. The earlier version stays in the version history. - To see what changed between two versions of a deck, step to the newer version in the artifact panel and choose Diff: it lists the changed, added and removed slides with a before and an after picture of each. Choose Show code diff for the line comparison and Show slides to return. A slide that was changed and moved at once may show as removed and added.
- You can also edit the deck by hand in the artifact panel and save it. If the assistant changed the same file in the meantime, nothing is overwritten and the panel asks whether to reload or to save your version anyway.
- On an older version of a stored file in the artifact panel, Restore this version saves it as the newest version. The newer versions stay in the version history.
- Closing the artifact panel keeps this version history for the conversation: open the file card again to get Diff and Restore this version back. Reloading the page or switching to another conversation starts the history anew.
Limits
- A deck uploaded to a project is never changed itself. The first change saves an edited copy (
deck-2.html) and its card reads Created; every later change in the same conversation updates that same copy (same file, new version, card Updated), also when you name the originaldeck.htmlin your request. Another conversation of the project makes its own copy. To keep a separate copy, ask for a different, descriptive name (not "deck-2"). A deck attached to a plain chat is not changed itself either: the first change stores the edited deck (card Created) and later changes update that stored file (card Updated). - When the assistant says it changed the file but did not, the notice No file was created. appears with a Create it now button (on the latest answer). Use it to have the file created.
- After the assistant changes an HTML deck, the gateway checks the slide that changed for cut-off text or an empty slide, and the assistant can correct the file before it answers. The check is not run in ghost mode (a private chat), and it is skipped when the check service is busy, the reply has little time left or the file is very large. Pictures that the deck loads from the internet are not fetched for the check.
- A deck with more than 99 slides shows no slide count, and no number from slide 100 on.
- A deck with its own numbering scheme (another start number, skipped slides, Roman numerals) is stored exactly as written; its numbers are not kept right automatically.
- When the assistant changes an HTML deck, a PowerPoint file or a workbook it wrote earlier by running a program, the file is updated in place (same file, new version), not saved again under a new numbered name. This also holds when the assistant writes the file back under a slightly different numbered name, as long as that run produced just this one file (pictures do not count). To keep a separate copy, ask for a different, descriptive name (not "name-2"); otherwise the edited file is updated. If the program picks the original uploaded file again after an edited copy exists in the conversation, it works on that latest copy and updates it in place (no
name-3); the upload stays unchanged. - The prompts above were checked on Myra-hosted models with one prepared deck. A reworded prompt, another model or a deck of a different kind can behave differently, so check the result before you rely on it. On gemma-4-31b-it and mistral-small-4, creating decks did not work in our tests, and editing worked only for some requests (see the table). Choose qwen3.8-27b for decks.
When something goes wrong
- The assistant says it changed the file, but nothing happened. The notice No file was created. appears with a Create it now button (on the latest answer). Use it.
- The card shows "Layout check: content is cut off". The slide still does not fit. Ask again for that slide, for example with the overflow prompt above.
- A change went to the wrong slide. Open the earlier version in the version history of the panel and press Restore this version under it: its text is saved as a new newest version and the versions in between stay in the history. Or name the slide by its number and by its title, and ask for the change again. If the file changed in the meantime, the panel asks first and overwrites nothing silently.
- The panel says the file was changed. The assistant saved a newer version while you had an unsaved edit. Choose Reload latest or Save my version anyway.
