Turn a presentation into PDF, PowerPoint or Word

What it does

An HTML slide deck in the conversation, because the assistant wrote it or you attached it, can be turned into a PDF, a PowerPoint file, a Word document or an OpenDocument file. A deck becomes one slide per section, and every slide keeps its own size; a PDF has one page per slide. PowerPoint, Word and OpenDocument give editable documents. A deck whose slides sit on top of each other cannot become a PDF, and a web font that the page downloads itself is replaced (see the limits below).

This page is about HTML slide decks. For a new deck, see Create a presentation.

How to ask

There are two ways. The first needs no prompt: open the Download menu on the file card and select Download as PDF, Download as PowerPoint, Download as Word or one of the OpenDocument formats. On an attachment or in the artifact panel the menu is called Convert. The converted file downloads at once.

The second way is to ask the assistant. It uses the same converter, and the converted file appears as a card in the reply. Below are three prompts you can copy and adapt. They name the file deck.html, which stands for the name of your own deck file in the chat: use that name. Each prompt was run on the three Myra-hosted models, ten runs each, against a prepared five-slide report deck. A run counts as passed when the file that the assistant produced matches the deck; the table shows how many of the ten runs passed.

Tips

  • Name the file when the conversation has more than one HTML file.
  • Say the format you want: PDF, PowerPoint or Word. For a deck you will keep editing, choose PowerPoint.
  • Edit the deck first and convert it afterwards. The artifact panel converts exactly the version it shows, including edits you have not saved yet.
  • If an image is missing in the result, check the message in the menu: it names the images that were not part of the conversation.

Limits

  • A deck whose slides sit on top of each other, or whose slides the page's layout keeps in one fixed window (only one slide would print), cannot be downloaded as PDF, and the message says so. Download it as PowerPoint instead, or ask the assistant for a version with the slides one below the other.
  • The same message appears when a slide would come out empty or when the deck's own script does not finish preparing it. A deck whose animation keeps moving its text is refused in every format (PDF, PowerPoint, Word and OpenDocument), so downloading it as PowerPoint does not help there: ask the assistant for a version with no animated text. The PowerPoint route helps only for slides that sit on top of each other or are kept in one fixed window. See Converting an HTML file. The artifact panel shows a deck without its animations; Open in new tab shows them.
  • A PDF shows each slide as a still page, and a converted PowerPoint or Word file does not carry the deck's animations or slide transitions either. Before the file is made, the deck's finite animations are finished, so each slide appears as it looks once it is fully shown. To show the animations, present the HTML deck itself with Open in new tab.
  • A web font that the page downloads itself, declared with @font-face or linked from an online font service, is not carried into the file. The next font in the page's font list is used instead. Every other font keeps its name, which the computer of the reader usually has.
  • If an image the page refers to is not part of the conversation, the file downloads without it, and the menu names the missing images.
  • The conversion is offered only in your own conversations where the code interpreter is available. It is not offered in ghost mode, in a conversation shared with you, or in a project whose data must stay local.
  • The prompts above were checked on Myra-hosted models with one prepared deck. A reworded prompt, another model or a deck of a different kind can behave differently, so open the file before you send it on.

When something goes wrong

  • The menu names missing images. The file was downloaded without them. Attach the images to the conversation and convert again.
  • The text looks different from the preview. The deck used a web font. The next font in its list was used. Ask the assistant to name a font such as Calibri or Georgia in the deck, or accept the replacement.
  • The assistant says it made the file, but there is no card. The notice No file was created. appears with a Create it now button. Use it.
  • There is no Download or Convert menu. The conversion is offered only where the code interpreter is available to you, and not in ghost mode, in a conversation shared with you or in a project whose data must stay local. Ask your administrator if the code interpreter is not available.
